Ghost Releases New Video for “He Is” Directed by Zev Deans of Behemoth and Pallbearer

Ghost fans are getting a little bit of a throwback with this one. The Swedish posterboys for metal, Ghost, have released a new video for their track “He Is,” one of their softer tracks from their 2015 release Meliora.

The Zev Dynes directed video matches the tracks tone, providing bright and playful visuals to match the soft and sunny music. The video follows Papa Emteritus (whose identity had been a bit of a controversy/puzzle until recently) acting as a passionate minister or cult leader depending on your perspective. Holding roses and embracing children, Emeritus leads a congregation full of young woman who all act a little too happy. Emeritus is also seen performing the traditional minister roles such as baptizing and preaching, and even expelling a few demons TV-evangelist style from worshippers.  Throughout, Emeritus is seen taking money from his worshippers, and the ending baptisms dip in the NSFW territory. The video brings in plenty of light bloom and glow to add a hazy, dreamlike quality to the whole video (take whatever interpretation you feel from that) and stays pretty tight with the majority of Ghost’s themes and imagery.

Along with the video, the band stated that: “Now we bid adieu to our third psalm…. the party is over.” The cryptic message most likely relates to rumors of a new album that is currently in the works.

Ghost has been at the center of several articles over the year. First, the band’s lineup has been an issue of controversy, as a Nameless Ghoul claims the lineup had changed at least 10 times. Then, in the midst of headlining tour,  four ghouls revealed themselves in a lawsuit against Papa Emeritus (who turned out to be Tobias Forge). Following that, Tobias Forge said that Ghost was more of a solo project than a band.

Ghost also recently performed their track “Monstrance Clock,” with a youth choir last week.
