Brand New @ Electric Factory 10/18

American indie rock band Brand New is coming off the release of their new album, Science Fiction. The album was released on August 17, 2017 via Procrastinate Music Traitors records. Science Fiction had a lot of hype surrounding the release, making the album Brand New’s first album since 2009. The band consists of Jesse Lacey, Vinnie Accardi, Brian Lane, and Garrett Tierney. Brand New reached the mainstream spotlight with their fourth album, Daisy in 2009. The album became Brand New’s highest selling album to date, peaking at no. 6 on the Billboard 200 chart. Brand New went on an 8-year hiatus before the release of Science Fiction in 2017.

After the formation of Brand New, the band began to gain exposure while playing small venues in New York. Brand New eventually signed with Triple Crown Records. Brand New released their debut album, Your Favorite Weapon in 2001. The band saw some success with the release, selling over 50,000 copies during the first few months. The lead single, “Jude Law and a Semester Abroad” received a lot of airplay on MTV and other music channels. While touring for their debut album, Brand New began to work on their second album. Deja Entendu, Brand New’s second album, was released in June 2003 via Triple Crown Records. Brand New’s success continued to grow. Brand New began to make appearances at various festivals and nationwide tours.

In 2008, Brand New released Daisy. The album peaked at no. 3 on Billboard Alternative Albums Chart and no. 17 on Canada Albums Chart. The following year, Brand New headlined at the Reading and Leeds Festivals. Brand New headlined their North American tour alongside Glassjaw, Thrice, Sybris, Manchester Orchestra, and Crime in Stereo. Fans of the band have sensed the end of Brand New’s career since the release of Science Fiction. Brand New has a new album scheduled to be released in 2018.

Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
