The White Buffalo is the stage name of American songwriter/singer Jake Smith. Jake Smith has cited singers Bob Dylan and Leonard Cohen as huge influences in his career. Jake grew up listening to punk rock and country music mostly while in California. Jake Smith has been known for his wide range of vocals from soft and folk to hard and punk. Jake has even drawn comparisons to the late Richie Havens. Jake Smith has had his music featured various times on the hit FX tv show Sons of Anarchy. The singer/songwriter is currently working a new album.
The White Buffalo released its debut album, Hogtied Like a Rodeo, in 2002. The album was released independently without outside help. The White Buffalo EP followed the release of the album the same year. Just like the debut album, the EP was released independently. Jake Smith began to score tv shows like Californication and Sons of Anarchy. In 2008, Jake re-released his debut album titled Hogtied Revisited. Jake Smith found mainstream success with his third studio album, Once Upon a Time in the West, released in 2012. The album was released by Unison Music Group and peaked at no. 30 on Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart.
In 2015, The White Buffalo released Love and the Death of Damnation. The album took the no. 1 spot on Billboard Heatseekers Album Chart, becoming his chart-topping album to date. Between albums, Jake Smith released serval EPs and worked on multiple soundtracks. The White Buffalo released his last album, Love and the Death of Damnation, back in 2015. Jake Smith is currently working on a new album to be released later this year.
