Deerhoof is an American indie rock band consisting of John Dieterich, Satomi Matsuzaki, Ed Rodriguez, and Greg Saunier. Since 1994, Deerhoof has continued to self-managed their band. All members of the band had a hand in writing their music as well as playing various instruments. Deerhoof has released over 16 studio albums dating back to their 1997 debut album, The Man, the King, the Girl. The band has had a few singles make their way on the Billboard 200 Chart including, “Offend Maggie”, “Friend Opportunity”, and “Deerhoof vs. Evil”. La Isla Bonita, Deerhoof’s 14th studio album was their highest chart-topping album to date, peaking at no. 18 on Alternative Albums Chart in 2014.
After the release of the album The Man, the King, the Girl, Deerhoof began work on their follow-up album, Holdypaws. In 1999, the album was released. Fans notice a big change from their debut album but nonetheless a great album. Changes between album became a long-lasting mark for Deerhoof’s music. Two years later, Deerhoof’s third album, Halfbird was released. Their next album, Revelle, took the band 3 whole years to finish. The band and album received high praise from music outlets like Pitchfork and even New York Times. After the release, Deerhoof toured and shared the stage with various acts including TV on the Radio, The Roots, Wilco, and Le Tigre. The band performed at the All Tomorrow’s Parties Festival at the request of Matt Groening, The Simpson creator. Towards the end of 2003, Deerhoof was the record label Kill Rock Stars’ longest running and most successful band. In 2006, Deerhoof made an appearance at Coachella.
Deerhoof spent the next few years working on their ninth album, Friend Opportunity. The album peaked at no. 14 on Billboard Independent Albums Chart. Deerhoof has continued to build a legacy that transcends their own music. Deerhoof has opened for Red Hot Chilli Peppers in 2016 and again in 2017. This past year, the band headlined 2017’s Big Ears Festival. Deerhoof announced a new album, Mountain Moves, to be released this September.
