mewithoutYou’s [A—> B] Life 15 Year Anniversary Tour hits Los Angeles
What began as a side project between brothers Aaron and Michael Weiss and a former guitarist ultimately helped shape a generation of indie rock, emo rock and post hardcore. [A—> B] Life was Philadelphia rockers mewithoutYou’s debut album and it’s been 15 years since its release. Paired up with screamo powerhouse band Pianos Become The Teeth and rock band Strawberry Girls, this upcoming show at the Regent Theatre is bound to drum up some crazy nostalgic feelings amongst the crowd.
MewithoutYou, more known as mewithoutYou, has been an active band since 2000. The band came together with the goal to achieve a sound different from the other projects that the members were currently in themselves. Holding an extensive discography, mewithoutYou has created six albums, [A—> B] Life (2002), Catch For Us The Foxes (2004), Brother, Sister (2006), It’s All Crazy! It’s All False! It’s All a Dream! It’s Alright (2009), Ten Stories (2012), and Pale Horse (2015), over the span of almost two decades. Known for tackling religious themes in their songs, mewithoutYou’s [A—> B] Life was prevalent with them. Released through Tooth & Nail Records, [A—> B] Life was widely accepted, earning four out of five stars on AllMusic. An AllMusic review of the album says that it makes the listener re-evaluate what they know about punk music. [A—> B] Life planted the seeds necessary for the current generation’s post hardcore bands to thrive. On top of recently announcing the anniversary tour with Pianos Become The Teeth, Strawberry Girls, and Slow Mass, the band also reissued [A—> B] Life on vinyl and cassette this year.
Pianos Become The Teeth is a post hardcore American rock band from Baltimore, Maryland that formed in 2006. Partially inspired by the emo and screamo acts that came before them, Pianos Become The Teeth helped mold a generation of post hardcore dominated by bands like La Dispute, Defeater, and Make Do and Mend. Best known for their dark lyricism and cohesive instrumentals, the band has released three albums and multiple EPs that were well received, including the album Old Pride (2009). In 2014, Pianos Become The Teeth signed to Epitaph Records and released their latest album, Keep You, which was stylistically changed from their earlier sound.
Strawberry Girls (Tragic Hero Records) is an experimental instrumental trio from California featuring (ex-Dance Gavin Dance guitarist) Zac Garren, Ben Rosett (Eternity Forever), and Ian Jennings. Formed in 2010, the band has been described as progressive, experimental, and post-hardcore. The band released covers of Kendrick Lamar’s “Swimming Pools (Drank)” and Carly Rae Jepsen’s “Call Me Maybe” in 2012.
