The details are fuzzy at best, but it appears that Dead Cross lead singer Mike Patton was involved in some sort of accident that was bad enough to force the band to cancel their Los Angeles show tonight (August 20). After Secret Chiefs 3 wrapped up their opening set, a half an hour passed after Dead Cross was slated to go on stage. Then, the curtains parted with drummer Dave Lombardo and guitarist Mike Crain standing on stage, visibly emotional.
The band explained that they would not be playing that night, there was some sort of accident and Patton would not be able to perform as he normally would. Lombardo did make it clear the accident “was not grave” but that he had been hurt and that the band would make up the show down the road. He stated that he and the other two band members of this hardcore supergroup – Justin Pearson of The Locust and Crain of Retox – would be traveling to where Patton was located to be with him. Before exiting the stage, Lombardo hoped for a “speedy recovery” for the iconic vocalist.
No other information is available at this time but keep checking this space for updates. The thoughts of the leadership and the entire staff of mxdwn is with Mike Patton, his friends, band mates and family. Whatever has happened, we hope he gets well soon.
UPDATE (8/22): Good news as the details of the accident that Patton suffered last night have been revealed. According to a statement from the band, he decided to skateboard to the venue for the performance and suffered a pretty bad wipeout. He received stitches and will be able to perform tonight – those that cannot attend the make-up show will be able to get refunds at the point of purchase.
Here is the official statement from the band:
“Mike Patton was involved in a minor accident last night en route to the Los Angeles’ date of Dead Cross’ current tour. Tonight’s performance has been canceled but a decision has yet to be made about the remaining dates.”
