Courtney Barnett has teased the release of an album with Kurt Vile, while also announcing a North American tour, where the song from the album will be performed. The album will be out through Mom & Pop, Matador, Marathon Artists and Milk!.
In regards to the comments of the collaboration, Barnett has said in a statement “In 2014 I scored a support slot opening for Kurt at the Abbotsford Convent [outside Melbourne]. We met briefly after the show but I was a bit nervous and didn’t wanna bother him, just grateful for the gig. Years later we started bumping into each other on the festival circuit all around the wide world and we became friends. He hit me up when he was coming to Melbourne next and said he thought we could work together.” In return Vile has stated that he loves her music.
The duo will be backed by the Sea Lice, which is a band that features Janet Weiss, Rob Laakso, Stella Mozgawa and Katie Harkin. The duo will also be partnering with Plis 1 to donate one dollar from each ticket purchased to the ACLU.
According to Twitter, a video was posted about the album with the caption “#cbkv/ August 31 Australia and New Zealand/ August 30 everywhere else…” In this video, there’s an email format that has Barnett sending a message Vile an message that asks “what time do you usually wake up?” then pressing the send button.
