Flying Lotus In 3D, Thundercat At Hollywood Forever Cemetery 10/14

Los Angeles’ known Flying Lotus, also known as FlyLo, is an experimental musician, producer, DJ, rapper and filmmaker that continues to break barriers across the thresholds of whatever he gets involved in. Whether it’s handling his LA-based record label Brainfeeder or coming to Lincoln Heights to perform at The Airliner’s Low End Theory, FlyLo always makes a point to come treat his fanbase back at home.

With the help of Brainfeeder’s Thundercat, Flying Lotus will be coming to Hollywood Forever Cemetery Saturday, Oct. 14 for a night in 3D. The night is sure to pay homage to the LA beat scene and raw jazz music, as well as experimental and psychedelic moments of R&B and hip hop. Whatever way the music takes, the instrumentals will probably be thoughtful and crisp. While it’s not exactly known what the 3D aspect will entail, FlyLo has always has amazing visuals at each of his sets.

Considering his film that came out last year, KUSO, one can only imagine what exactly is going to happen. FlyLo’s film features the likes of Hannibal Buress, Tim Heidecker, Aphex Twin, Thundercat and George Clinton, all people he’s met while doing his thing. The film was so gross that people actually walked out during the premiere last year at the Sundance Film Festival, however, don’t let the gross factor fool you. Everything that FlyLo does has artistic value.

FlyLo has come out five five previous studio albums–all to critical acclaim. Each album–1983 (2006), Los Angeles (2008), Cosmogramma (2010), Until the Quiet Comes (2012) and You’re Dead! (2014)‍ is eclectic and electrifying in its own right. He’s worked with Adult Swim and Cartoon Network for years, on top of receiving two Grammys, one for Best Dance Recording on the track “Never Catch Me” and the other for Album of the Year, for his work as a producer on the highly acclaimed To Pimp a Butterfly.

Thundercat, a Los Angeles native, is known for pushing the limits as a futuristic jazz and experimental singer, producer, and bass player. With three solo albums underneath his belt, Thundercat is mostly known for his crossover work with Flying Lotus, Suicidal Tendencies, and Kendrick Lamar. He also played a part in FlyLo’s film KUSO. Last year, Thundercat won a Grammy for Best Rap/Sung Collaboration for his work on Kendrick Lamar’s track “These Walls,” which was on To Pimp a Butterfly. His latest album that came out late Februrary, Drunk, peaked at number six on the US R&B Charts and at number 50 on the US Charts.
