Lorde Releases Video Series for Reimagined Songs From Melodrama

Recently Lorde dropped six new videos that rearrange songs from her sophomore album Melodrama. It was reported by Rolling Stones that the Grammy Award winning singer/songwriter filmed videos for tracks such as “Homemade Dynamite,” “Hard Feelings/Loveless,” “Supercut,” “Sober,” “The Louvre” and “Writer in the Dark” for Vevo. All of the videos were filmed at the same studio she recorded Melodrama, at Electric Lady Studios in New York City.

The video series comes along with a clip of Lorde explaining her reasons for going in a direction she’s not familiar with making these videos stating “I don’t really do acoustic sessions or anything, but with this record, it had roots in acoustic instruments, in live musicianship. I think when you start to strip a song back, you really come back to this place of where you were building it.”

The videos are similar to a set on MTV’s Unplugged minus the live audience. Whether the videos take place in the studio or on the roof of the studios, Lorde creates an intimate setting where the emotions of heartbreak are closer for the viewers to feel. Throughout the video series Lorde is accompanied Melodrama‘s co-producer/co-writer Jack Antonoff assists, brass and string musicians and a female choir, each playing the part as a valuable asset that assist Lorde in displaying the feelings she’s dealing with. The video series makes you think that Lorde is creating the album as you’re watching it, that at times you almost forget that Melodrama has already been released. Below you can checkout the six reimagined tracks.
