In a recent interview with RT, Roger Waters has once again heavily criticized Radiohead for their support of the Israeli government by playing a concert in Tel Aviv, as reported by Pitchfork. The concert in Tel Aviv was a flashpoint for controversy with many people (including Waters) being critical of Radiohead.
Frontman Thom Yorke responded to the criticism by stating that they do not endorse the politics of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu any more than Donald Trump, but they still play in the US. Waters directly addressed this comparison in the interview, stating that the situation in both counties is vastly different, especially considering the existence of the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement:
“The people of the United States have not got together as a civil society and asked performers from the rest of the world not to come and perform in the United States, because they are an occupied people and there is an organized resistance against the occupying army,”
The ex-Pink Floyd bassist has become increasingly outspoken of Israel in recent years, bringing attention to what he believes are egregious human rights violations committed by the Israeli government towards the Palestinian people.
Rogers is currently promoting his most recent release, Is This the Life We Really Want? his first collection of new material in 25 years.
