Beck Hanson, known by the mononym of Beck, has announced details for his new record, Colors, set to be released this October as reported by Rolling Stone. While he has teased the public with couple of single releases recently, this album is his first since 2014’s critically acclaimed and controversial Morning Phase, which saw Beck win the Grammy for album of the year, much to the chagrin of many music pundits who thought otherwise.
Beck worked on the Colors with acclaimed producer Greg Kurstin known for his work with Adele, Sia, Foo Fighters, and Kelly Clarkson. As it turns out Kurstin got his first big break in the music industry as a touring keyboardist with Beck back in 2002 before making it big as a producer. Colors was recorded at Kurstin’s LA studio, with the duo recording the majority of the instruments themselves.
While Beck has admitted that the album could have come out at an earlier date he is quick to point out that the complex nature of the project required more time “But these are complex songs all trying to do two or three things at once. It’s not retro and not modern. To get everything to sit together so it doesn’t sound like a huge mess was quite an undertaking.”
Beck is currently on a summer series of tour dates and he will be opening a select number of concerts on U2’s The Joshua Tree tour this September. More details, such as the tracklist, release date, and album art will be released shortly.
UDPATE (8/24): Beck has announced the release date for Colors. It will be out on October 13, 2017 on Capitol Records.
It is the Los Angeles singer’s first album since 2014, when he released the acclaimed, GRAMMY winning album Morning Phase. Also included on this album are previously released singles “Dreams” and “Wow.” Today, the singer released a third single from the record, “Dear Life.”
