A very interesting combo of covers was released this morning. Peter Hook of Joy Division/New Order fame and industrial metal band Ministry covered the same song, “Dancing Madly Backwards.” The original psych rock song was released in 1972 by Captain Beyond. As you can probably imagine, the two renditions of the songs were wildly different.

First, the original

Now, the two covers.

Peter Hook has been busy as of late touring with his band, The Light, but he hinted at a new LP in the style of this cover: “I just done a track with one of Kraftwerk. I’ve also done another track, a cover version (funnily enough) called ‘Dancing Madly Backwards’ by Captain Beyond. It’s a song from the ’70s from a record label in America. It turned out really, really well. The guys phoned me up and said. ‘Fancy doing an LP in that style?’ [laughs].”

Though out of stock now, the split LP containing both covers is available through Cleopatra Records. If this isn’t enough Ministry for you, check out their new song, “Antifas.” Or, catch them on tour with Death Grips.
