San Francisco, this Fall, get ready, as one of the best rock-bands ever is coming to town. If you still don’t know who I am talking about is no more and no less than Smash Mouth! The San Jose band is celebrating their 20th anniversary of their debut smash-hit album “Fush Yu Mang”, and what better way to do it than touring along with the Deadlies and Alec Lee while performing all their best hits for you at The Independent this August 24th!
Smash Mouth was formed back in 1994 in San Jose, CA, by vocalist Steve Harwell; and this year the band is celebrating this 20-year milestone by releasing an acoustic version of their debut album “FYM” – which set its record by becoming an early album to modern rock hits. However, the album as a whole was not the only success, but one of the tracks “Walkin’ on the Sun”, a ‘50’s influenced track, became an international sensation, and it’s considered to be the band’s masterpiece.
With the release of their follow-up album in 1999 “Astro Lounge”, came a whole new age for the band. Three of their singles – “All-Star”, “Then the Morning Comes”, and “Can’t Get Enough of You Baby” – reached the top ten hits and the album itself almost approached quadruple platinum status. As if that were all, Smash Mouth was what gave life to the soundtrack of one of the best-animated movies of history “Shrek” with two of their most joyful tracks: “I’m a Believer” and “All-Star”.
2016 was an exciting year for the veteran Bay-Area rock band, as they welcomed the return of former drummer Randy Cooke who and introduced a new guitarist as well – Sam Eigen – who many thought was just about time.
Even though the band has gone through some changes, they’ve all been for good; and one thing is for sure, Smash Mouth is and will still be the same vibrant and energetic rock band with their rock-surf style as they have always been. So, prepare yourselves to presence this All-Star band to blow your minds with their great comeback and a heck of a #TBT night!
