Overcoats @ Dr. Martens Herald Square 8/10

When it comes to New York City-based duo Overcoats, they have singer-songwriting pretty figured out. Hana Elion and JJ Mitchell are the ladies who make up the band Overcoats, and since their full-length release called YOUNG that was released this year, they have carved their stance in the indie scene.

With their electronic-pop sound they introduce a poetic new energy, especially with songs like “Smaller Than My Mother” and “Leave the Light On.” They sing with soul, with passion, with chemistry. There is nothing light about their songs–they ring heavy and beautiful, emotional and endearing. Even their softer songs like “Father” and “Walk On” are thick with meaning. You can find their sound somewhere in between the electronic grit of Sylvan Esso and the heavenly harmonies of The Wild Reeds.

Before their full-length, Overcoats released a self-titled EP in 2015, and this year they’ve also released a few songs on Audiotree Live so you can catch a glimpse of the powerful performance you can expect when seeing them perform live. This upcoming show at Dr.Martens Herald Square is a free show, but you do have to RSVP. Info is below!
