Vuur is a new band from acclaimed dutch vocalist, Anneke van Giersbergen. The name can be translated from Dutch as “fire” which also can be described to mean “passion” or “drive.” That idea can easily represent singer’s drive to bring out her metal side. Fans will have that chance, Vuur’s debut album, In This Moment We Are Free – Cities is set to be released as a 11-track LP on October 20th via InsideOut Music. The new LP includes the track, “Days Go By – London” which was released by the band early June.
Van Giersbergen released some more updates on the new album with some insight regarding the new album cover and what fans will hear when they press play.
According to van Giersbergen, the lyrical themes that surround the new album “revolve around cities and freedom. Exposure to big cities can be overwhelming and you can feel engulfed by everything around you. At the same time it’s easy to be a stranger in a big city and for me that brings out a feeling of freedom as well.” She expresses that in the past year, she contemplated a lot about “virtues of rural versus urban life, since me and my family are moving back to the city. It’s very exciting, but at the same time I know that sense of urban solitude from past experiences.”
The idea behind the cover art of the album represents that duality. The album cover was designed by Black & Finch, the same people who Anneke worked previously with on the Verloren Verleden release.
The debut album by Vuur was produced by Joost van den Broek. Broek was also involved in the writing process as well as Mark Holcomb from Periphery, Esa Holopainen from Amorphis, Daniel Cardoso from Anathema and both guitar players of Vuur all contribute their writing skills to the songs on the new album.
