Today, hip-hop fans are waking up with either excitement or disappointment. Whether you fall in either categories, the secret show delivered by Tyler, the Creator was something worth gloating about.
Fans of Tyler, the Creator found themselves in the right place at the right time Thursday night when the artist performed a secret show. Tyler teamed up with Converse and Footlocker to put on the secret performance at the Studio at Webster Hall in New York City. The show was open to the first 100 people who bought Tyler’s converse sneakers at the Foot Locker in Times Square.
Those who found themselves attending the intimate show not only got to see a performance from Tyler but got a surprise when two other hip-hop stars; Frank Ocean and A$AP Rocky joined Tyler on stage. The two hip-hop stars came on stage one at a time to help Tyler perform tracks off his latest album, Flower Boy. The new album by Tyler has recently released to positive reviews even hitting the number 2 on the Billboard.
Both Ocean and Rocky helped Tyler, the Creator perform a couple tracks off the new album. Frank Ocean helped perform “Where This Flower Blooms,” while A$AP Rocky came out to perform “Who Dat Boy” as well as A$AP Mob’s own “Telephone Calls.”
Flower Boy includes another track featuring Tyler’s former Odd Future bandmate, Frank titled “911 / Mr. Lonely.” Tyler explained to Pitchfork in a recent interview how the song morphed together: “[Frank] was like, ‘Let me try something.’ He just started saying ‘chirp chirp chirp chirp’ about 400 fuckin’ times.”
Judging by the audience reaction during the short video below, the surprise appearances was welcoming. The set also included performances of songs from all three of Tyler’s albums including Wolf, Cherry Bomb and Flower Boy.
