If the emo scene of the 2000s was your scene, then you know The Spill Canvas. Sunsets and Car Crashes was the name of their debut release–the album that put them on the map with songs like “All Hail the Heartbreaker” and “Under the Covers.” Their lyrics are pure, emotional poetry that are punchy and consuming, and their follow up album One Fell Swoop proved yet again that this band was vibrant force.
Their songs tell vivid stories. Their songs are a rush. Listen to the song “This is For Keeps” and you’ll instantly be taken back to an long-lost love from another time as they sing, “You sit completely unaware of what I’m about to do. The air is thick with tension much like when we are together. My fangs are aching as I’m pondering about you and I forever.”
While The Spill Canvas hasn’t released a record since 2012, they’re heading back on tour to celebrate the tenth anniversary of No Really, I’m Fine. And who doesn’t love a good throwback? The Spill Canvas have grown up since the days that they were all over My Space, but their beautifully sad and romantic music has found a way to last the times. Heartbreaking songs never go out of style anyway, right?
