Yelle @ Boots and Saddle 9/25

Yelle is a French electro-pop band founded by Julie Budet, known by her stage name Yelle, and Jean-Francios Perrier, known by his stage name GrandMariner. A third member, Tepr, joined the band later.  The band is known for their hit single, “Je veux te vior” which reached the top 5 in France. Due to the popularity of the single, Yelle signed a record deal to work on their debut album, Pop Up. The debut album was released in 2007. Yelle has had success at various festivals, being the only French band to play Coachella a number of three times.

Yelle posted their debut single, “Je veux te vior” on social media platform MySpace in 2005. The single enjoyed great success before attracting the attention of record label Source Etc. “Je veux te vior” earned the number 4 spot in France. Their debut album, Pop Up, was released in late 2007. Despite all their songs being in French, the band continued to gain success outside their country. In the US, Yelle was featured as MTV’s Artist of the Week in March 2008. After a year of touring, Yelle went on a very short hiatus before working on their second studio album. Safari Disco Club, Yelle’s second album, was released in early March 2011. The band went on to open for pop singer Katy Perry on her 2011 California Dreams tour in the UK. After getting back to the US, Yelle went on their own tour in support of the album. Yelle released their third album, Completement fou, under producer Dr. Luke’s record label, Kemosabe in September 2014.

Yelle has had a lot of success with their music. Yelle launched a translator app in 2014 for non-French people to decode the lyrics for Yelle’s songs. Their debut album sold over 18,000 units in France and peaked at number 8 on US Dance Chart. Their second album, Safari Disco Club, peaked at number 9 on US Dance Chart while taking the number 77 spot in France.
