British rock band Enter Shikari have announced the details for their new album, The Spark, to be released on September 22nd. The record was helmed by producer David Kosten, known for his work with Everything Everything and Bat For Lashes.
In addition, the band have released a new video for the lead single “Live Outside.” Visually, the music video depicts the band members in a dystopian future where virtual reality dominates. Stylistically it falls in line with a scenario that would fit right in an episode of the acclaimed Netflix series Black Mirror. Lead singer Rou Reynolds portrays a man working on an assembly line who refuses to take his sedatives and is then forced to perform on an interactive virtual reality TV show.
The dark subject matter of the video creates an interesting dichotomy with the song itself. “Live Outside” merges anthemic British rock with plenty of bubbling electronics to create a gripping and musically interesting song that is loaded with hooks. The piece has an upbeat quality and features a dense set of layered vocal tracks during its explosive chorus.
The band is coming off a highly successful spring tour of the US in celebration of the ten year anniversary of their debut record Take to the Skies and they now seem poised to build upon that success.
Enter Shiraki have announced a show stateside at Brooklyn’s legendary Rough Trade on September 30th, with entry being limited to those fans who pre-order the album at the store. You can check out the video for “Live Outside” below.
