Michael Angelakos of Passion Pit Provides More Details on His Mental Health Advocacy Organization The Wishart Group

Michael Angelakos, the main creative force behind Passion Pit, has released more details for his advocacy organization, The Wishart Group as reported by Billboard. Angelakos has recently announced that he will be taking hiatus from releasing music to focus all his energy on Wishart, which focuses on providing mental health services to musicians, many of whom are without the medical insurance required to cover such services. Angelakos has opened up in recent years about his own struggles with depression and bipolar disorder, something he has battled with since he was seventeen.

His main goal is to bring more awareness to mental health disorders so that the stigma associated from them can be removed from society, as that stigma is detrimental to the treatment of the disorders. Angelakos’ plan is to partner with artists to donate exclusive releases and help drive an influx of cash. This will allow for the artist to get a tax write off for donating a revenue generating asset. After raising funds, Wishart will help create protective services for artists.

For Angelakos this means that “The group develops solutions, addressing every single problem I’ve had as a musician, person in the media industry, as a citizen and a person with mental health issues — all of which I have found to be very common or pretty universal”. More details are set to be released in the coming months but it appears that The Wishart Group has grand ambitions in mind, focusing on the helping those artists who struggle with mental health issues.

Many artists do not want to seek help and instead want to fight it alone, which only makes the situation worse. Passion Pit fans will not be left out in the cold though, as Angelakos has released a new album to streaming services this month.
