Deerhoof is an indie noise-rock band from San Francisco, California. The band formed in 1994 by Rob Fisk and Greg Saunier, only being a bass and drums ordeal. After members joined and left the band, the band formed the core of their sound in the late 90s. The current members consist of Saunier on drums and vocals, Satomi Matsuzaki on vocals and bass and John Dieterich and Ed Rodriguez both on guitar.
The quartet has released seventeen albums, many singles and several free downloadable EPs. Each Deerhoof album is unique in its own way, all having their own distinct sound. Matsuzaki sang her native language of Japanese on their mini-album, Green Cosmos, that was released in 2005. Deerhoof’s latest record, The Magic, was out in April of 2016. Described by Pitchfork, “While it’s a true single moment of their inscrutable avant-pop can sometimes recall other artists- a garage-y guitar riff, a Stereolab-y keyboard part, a Fugazi drum roll- each Deerhoof record (or even song) mashes all of these things together in a way that feels completely exclusive to them.”
