The Prophets of Rage have released a new music video for “Living on the 110,” which is taken from the group’s self-titled debut album to be released on September 15th according to Blabbermouth. The supergroup, which features B-Real of Cypress Hill, Chuck D and DJ Lord of Public Enemy, and the instrumental members of Rage Against the Machine have also announced details for fall tour of the US as reported by The PRP. The album was produced by Brendan O’Brien who is known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, Rage Against the Machine, and Audioslave. Since making their live debut in May of 2016, Prophets of Rage have been touring the entire globe, playing a setlist comprised mainly of Rage Against the Machine classics along with Cypress Hill and Public Enemy songs.
In a statement released by guitarist Tom Morello, he describes “Living on the 110” as a song that deals with the issues of homelessness:
“The 110 is a freeway in Los Angeles and living beneath it are thousands of homeless people. Bentleys and Rolls Royces roaring by are literally driving on top of the poor and their makeshift homes, a picture-perfect analogy for the grotesque economic inequality that plagues our times.”
Musically speaking the song combines Morello’s furious riffing along with a set of pummeling vocals from B-Real and Chuck D. The video switches between the band playing and images of homeless camps while superimposing many of the shocking statistics about homelessness in America today. The combination makes for a striking audio/visual experience and continues to push the band’s fiery politics to the forefront.
