Psychedelic rock band The Church have been around for a long time. First known for new wave and indie rock, the band later became known for their use of slow tempos for which is now called dream pop. The Church’s debut album, Of Skin and Heart, helped spark their major worldwide success throughout their career. In 2011, The Church was inducted into the ARIA Hall of Fame in Sydney. During their career, The Church released 24 studio albums, 4 EPs, and one live album.
The Church released their debut album, Of Skin and Heart in 1981. Frontman and founder Steve Kirby wrote a lot of the songs on the album. The album did well in Canada grabbing the 30th spot on Canada Albums Chart and number 22 in Australia. The Church went on their first national tour in support of their album. The Church’s second album, The Blurred Crusade was released in 1982. The album was released under EMI Parlophone Records. The album peaked at number 10 on Australia Albums chart. The Church went on their second tour in Australia. In 1988, The Church released their fifth album, Starfish which was certified gold by RIAA. The album was produced and released by Mushroom Records. Starfish would be The Chruch’s last chart topping album of their career.
The Chruch continued to release albums while none of them could reach the level of the previous. In 2012, the band played a series of shows in their home country with Models and Simple Mind. The Chruch released their 24th album, Further/Deeper on October 17, 2014. The album was a different sound than their previous. After the release, The Church went on a worldwide tour in support their latest album. The tour started in Australia and included North America and Europe
