Classic West Day One with The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and The Eagles (Photos, Setlists)

The Classic Concerts is a weekend festival bringing together six legendary acts to perform for audiences in Los Angeles and New York. The Classic West concert took place in Dodger Stadium and the Classic East concert will be taking place at Citi Field. For the first night of the festival, The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan and The Eagles performed.

The Doobie Brothers

Day one of Classic West started with classic rockers The Doobie Brothers, who performed hits such as “Long Train Running,” “China Grove” and “Listen to the Music.”

Steely Dan

The second band of the night was Steely Dan. The group is known for its two original members, Donald Fagen and Walter Becker. Becker did not perform at the show due to falling ill before the event, but the band had Larry Carlton step in to play guitar. Carlton is famously known for contributing guitar to the band’s popular song “Kid Charlemagne.” “You may have noticed that my longtime partner Walter Becker is not on stage,” Fagen told the audience after their opening song “Bodhisattva.” “He took ill shortly before he was to come to California. We wish him a speedy recovery.”

The Eagles

The festival headliners at Classic West’s first day were California’s own The Eagles. This was the first time the band has performed since the passing of original member, Glenn Frey last year. There have been rumors as to who would replace Glenn and it turned out to be none other than his son, Deacon. Also joining the group was country music star Vince Gill. The group started with the classic song “Take It Easy.” During the middle of the set, legendary artist Bob Seger joined the band on stage to perform “Heartache Tonight,” which they recorded for their 1979 album The Long Run. The band also performed classic material from Joe Walsh’s solo work which included songs such as “In the City” and “Rocky Mountain Way.”

Mauricio Alvarado: I've been a concert photographer for the past 5 years. My work has been featured on various music magazines and websites. Some of the bands I've photographed are Yes, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Slayer, Rob Zombie, Santana, and many more. I'm obsessed with 70's Progressive Rock music. I enjoy photographing bands that I grew up listening to. I'm also a big vinyl record collector since I was in High School. I always enjoy taking my albums to shows and getting them signed by the bands.
