DIIV is a dream pop band from Brooklyn, New York City. Front-man Zachary Cole Smith had been a part of Soft Black, Darwin Deez and Beach Fossils before starting his own solo project (Dive) in 2011. The band changed their name to DIIV to avoid problems linked to Dirk Ivens project from the 90s that was already named Dive. After Cole let fans know on Instagram that he was going to a “long-haul inpatient treatment” in February, he seems to be better and back on the road again.
The band has released two albums and several singles. Captured Tracks signed DIIV when they started out and released their first two singles. DIIV’s first album Oshin was rated number 22 for Stereogum’s Top 50 Albums of 2012. DIIV’s latest album from 2016, Is the Is Are, landed spot 41 out of 50 on Pitchfork Readers’ Poll Results 2016.
