This past Friday Brooklyn Vegan reported that Warner Music Group has gotten hold of concert listing platform SongKick. According to Billboard report, the Warner Music Group has acquired many of SongKick’s core assets such as their website, trademark and their app. The six million-plus concert listing and 15 million monthly user app will now be managed by WEA, Warner Music Group’s artist and label service division. This deal will include some of SongKick’s employees to move over to Warner Music Group.
SongKick’s co-founder Matt Jones shared his excitement of the company’s move by saying “Songkick was founded on the promise of improving the live experience for fans and the artists they love. Over the years, we have helped tens of millions find their next great live experience. And today, I’m excited to pass the baton on the discovery service to the great team at WMG, an ideal organization to carry on this mission and to take it in new, innovative directions.” President of WEA, Tony Harlow expressed mutual feelings of the new alignment stating, “It’s a passionate, highly engaged music community, always on the lookout for new experiences. Bringing together Songkick’s discovery platform and world-class technology with our existing ecommerce expertise and global reach represents a powerful step in strengthening and evolving our direct-to-fan capabilities.”
Billboard also reported that the only issue with the move was the future of Sogkick’s ticketing side:
What’s left out of the deal is the ticketing side of Songkick and, notably, the pending litigation that the company has against Live Nation and Ticketmaster. Songkick’s long-running lawsuit against the ticketing giant alleges antitrust violations, anticompetitive behavior and intentional interference with smaller firms.
This new acquisition of SongKick is immediate and details on the site and app’s ticketing process are being handled and as of now the financial details aren’t known
