It is always a good day when Hawaiian folk-rocker Jack Johnson releases new music to the world. That’s exactly what he’s doing with the release of a new track and news of a upcoming studio album.
All The Light Above It Too is the 7th studio album from the multi-platinum recording artist Jack Johnson. The new album is set to be released on September 8 and will be available through Johnson’s own Brushfire Records label. Today, Johnson released his first Anti-Trump single that is taken from the new record titled, “My Mind Is For Sale.” Johnson released it along with a lyric music video that he created himself.
The album is Johnson’s first new studio album since From Here To Now To You, which came out in 2013. For All The Light Above It Too, Johnson played most of the instruments himself as he recorded the LP at his Mango Tree Studio in Hawaii. He then enlisted his longtime band mates and producer Robbie Lackritz to help finish the record.
“This album shares what has been on my mind during the past year or so,” says Johnson. “A year in which I sailed through the North Atlantic Gyre for a documentary about plastic pollution in the ocean. A year in which Trump was elected as the President of the United States. A year in which I camped, surfed, got stitches, explored, dreamed, shared time and endless conversations with my family and friends…all of which inspired these songs.”
Johnson continued by saying; I usually make sketches of the songs first then set up a time to actually record the album. This time around the original sketches became the final versions. I didn’t want to lose any of the spirit that a song has in its rawest form.”
The new track, “My Mind Is For Sale” touches on President Trump’s plan to build a wall along the U.S./Mexico border. The video is not a typical lyric video that one would normally see floating around Youtube. There’s thought and meaning poured into the video and it shows. The lyric video was created by Johnson with the hep of his kids and shows Johnson building blocks that have the song lyrics written on them and then kicks them down.
Johnson and his band have just finished the west coast leg of their summer tour but fans will be happy to hear that Johnson has extended their sold-out tour. They will will continue by playing second sold out show tonight at Denver’s Fiddler’s Green Amphitheatre. Johnson has added additional sold out shows throughout July including a show at the Hollywood Bowl (July 16) as well as two sold-out shows at the Santa Barbara Bowl (July 17-18) and two sold out shows at Berkeley’s Greek Theatre (July 26-27).
New Southern tour dates have been added in the fall that will kick off September 27th and will go through October 5.
