As reported by Yahoo Music, Laura Jane Grace and Mina Caputo will be performing together on July 17th at the Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards at the Keybank State Theater in Cleveland. This will mark the first time that both transgender icons have shared the stage. Grace is set to receive the APMA Icon Award, joining such past recipients such as Marilyn Mason and Joan Jett. The day before the awards ceremony both Grace and Caputo will take part in a LGBTQ In Music panel as part of the AMPA fan day, held at the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame.
Mike Shea, CEO/Founder of Alternative Press magazine is excited at the prospect of the two sharing the stage:
“Having Laura Jane Grace and Life Of Agony’s Mina Caputo on the same stage illustrates the enduring and exciting raw nature of both punk and heavy metal, fortified by a social awareness that is as serious as a three-block city fire. Neither Grace or Caputo pull any punches, and these days, the world’s music fans need that sonic affirmation more than ever.”
Grace has fronted the legendary punk band Against Me! for the past 20 years, and the band is currently in the midst of a summer-long tour in support of their latest release, Shape Shift With Me. Caputo has fronted Life of Agony since their formation in 1989, having recently released their first album in 12 years, the blistering A Place Where There’s No More Pain.
The Alternative Press Music Awards will also feature performances by All Time Low, Against Me!, Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness, Bone Thugs, Korn, Machine Gun Kelly, New Years Day, Nothing More, ONE OK ROCK, Pierce The Veil, Plain White T’s, and many more.
Amazon will be handling the live streaming of the event, which starts at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT at https://music.amazon.com/apmas on mobile phones, Macs and PCs, as well as globally on Amazon Music’s official Twitch channel at www.twitch.tv/amazonmusic.
