Queens of the Stone Age have been ramping activity over the past few weeks. After announcing their new album (in comedic fashion) last month, the band has dropped a couple new songs from the Mark Ronson produced LP Villains which is due out August 25.
Ronson has definitely left his fingerprint on the LP, but the Queens of Stone Age don’t let their sound get lost in the process. Need some proof? Check out the video for their new song “Head Like a Haunted House.”
The new snippet starts with a distorted bass chord, as the band quickly shifts into gear with a driving rhythm section between the drums and the bass rift. Some punk-inspired guitar riffs and some Homme vocals later, and you have a certifiable rock-banger. While the snippet is just over a minute long, it makes for a promising teaser for what’s instore in just a few weeks.
So far, all of the new tracks, including “The Evil Has Landed,” which was debuted live, and “The Way You Used to Do” have featured that classic Mark Ronson sound, while still letting Queens of the Stone Age come through to deliver their classic uptempo style of rock. Everything Ronson has touched over his career as seemingly become pop royalty. Bruno Mars, Amy Winehouse, Adele and Lady Gaga are some of the big names he’s worked for over the years, and it’s clear that QOTA are looking to work up the charts on this new LP. Don’t worry though, it still rocks.
QOTA will be at several festivals this year, including the Riot Fest and the Splendour in the Grass Festival.
Check out the new snippet and get ready for one of the biggest rock album this year when Villains drops next month.
