Doom Side of the Moon Release Trippy Video for Heavy Metal Cover of Pink Floyd Song “Time”

50 years have come and gone since Pink Floyd released  Dark Side of the Moon, which is still appreciated today.  To celebrate, Kyle Shutt produced a heavy metal cover of the album, Dark Side of the Moon.

Doom Side of the Moon just unveiled music video of the song “Time” to get viewers amped up for the debut on Saturday, August 5 at Emo’s in Austin, Texas.  Shutt first announced his metallic cover of the album after his spring tour. The full article can be read here.

Alongside bandmates from The Sword, Shutt titled the album Doom Side of the Moon. Bandmates Bryan Richie, Santiago Vela III, Alex Marrero, Jason Frey and Joe Cornetti worked alongside Shutt to make this trippy version of Pink Floyd’s legendary album.

Bandmembers from The Sword teamed up with Stuart Sikes from The White Stripes to help mix and engineer the music.

“Time” offers a sneak peek at what is to follow during the debut of Doom Side of the Moon. The video mimics portions of a “visual tripscape” that will be performed live at the debut. According to Shutt these are seven easy steps to watch the video, but not all seven are necessary.

“1.) Turn on your PS4
2.) Resist the urge to play ‘Mass Effect: Andromeda’
3.) Go to your YouTube app
4.) Enter “Doom Side of the Moon ‘Time'” into the YouTube search engine
5.) Roll up a big ol’ fattie
6.) Turn off all the lights
7.) Put that sh*t on full screen and enjoy!”

“Time” is the second song recorded after Shutt’s idea to recreate Dark Side of the Moon “Money” was the first. Here’s a comment made by Shutt regarding the concept of the cover album,

“The idea for Doom Side of the Moon came to me after getting baked and wanting to hear a heavy version of “Time”…I thought, why not just cover the whole album? After sitting down and working out some loose concepts, the arrangement for “Money” materialized and I realized that I could totally do this if I assembled the right band. It felt a little strange messing with someone’s legacy, but I’m treating it as a celebration of one of the greatest bands to ever rock, a party that everyone is invited to.”

Rock on to “Money” below and see what Shutt is talking about:

Doom Side of the Moon will be released independently in North America and physical copies will be available exclusively at the band’s webstore. Some other perks of pre-ordering a deluxe bundle include a poster signed by the band, a commemorative baseball t-shirt, CD and LP with download code and they will also receive a limited edition cassette single for “Money.” It can also be downloaded digitally on Amazon and iTunes once the album debuts.

As mentioned before, Doom side of the Moon will be debuting on August 5 at Emo’s in Austin, Texas. That is exactly fifty years to the day that Dark Side of the Moon was released in its entirety. Tickets are available on Emo’s website.
