Joshua Paul Davis, a.k.a. DJ Shadow shook the music world with a surprise release of a new EP entitled The Mountain Has Fallen featuring fellow rap talents Nas and Danny Brown. The project only contains four songs, but has just as strong of a message as an album with 14– even with a complete instrumental track at the end with featured artist Steven Price. The EP is available on Soundcloud or you can listen to the EP in its entirety below.
DJ Shadow’s last LP The Mountain Will Fall was deemed risky after he rejected a “comfortable” record deal.
“So I guess you could say that this new EP is my version of a victory lap,” said Shadow in an interview. “It’s a celebration, and an extension of those confident steps forward.”
Nas and DJ Shadow just recently collaborated on a new single called “Systematic” which appeared on the soundtrack to HBO’s “Silicon Valley.”
You can catch him on his summer tour now until August, or even headlining at the VIVID Festival alongside Fleet Foxes and The Avalanches.
At the end of last year, DJ Shadow released a couple new music videos including one with Run The Jewels entitled “Nobody Speak” and one for “Bergschrud.”
