Social Repose is the stage name of 27 year old Richard Giese. The Youtuber and songwriter is known for his controversial headdress which he refuses to remove despite numerous requests to do so by many people, including rightfully offended Native Americans.
His unique costume which includes white face paint, black contacts along with the headdress is off-putting and distracting to say the least. In one of his popular videos, he explains that he wears the costume purely to gain attention. It might be okay if he were drawing attention to a cause that would benefit the community which he is supposedly “representing”, but he nor his music is that deep, meaningful or empathetic: he is simply doing it for himself and to get a reaction out of others.
I wasn’t familiar with this ‘act’ and I honestly didn’t want to continue listening to his work and reading more about this extremely disrespectful person. He seems like an overconfident internet fiend who thrives off of negativity. I have a slight feeling he will post a mean-spirited response to anything negative written about him. We shall see.
Oh yeah, he makes like electronic/dance music with an alternative twist. He hardly seems like an act our city would welcome, but he will be performing at Wire in October.
