NEW MUSIC ALERT: Spotlights Release Bruising New Song “Learn To Breathe”

Just few months after signing to Ipecac Recordings, Brooklyn duo, Spotlights, released a new song this morning. “Learn To Breathe”, was posted on Ipecac Recordings’ Soundcloud and YouTube page, and is the first single off of their new album, SEISMIC.

According to their Bandcamp page, you could describe Spotlights as doomgaze, post-hardcore, shoegaze, or just New York. Not ton is known about the duo, made up of husband and wife Mario and Sarah Quintero, formerly of Sleep Lady. Nevertheless, they’ve been making waves since the release of their 2016 debut album, Tidals. The band had nothing but good things to say upon joining Mike Patton’s diverse label, Ipecac Recordings. “It’s such an honor to join Ipecac’s amazing roster,” said the band. “We couldn’t have imagined a better home for the band and our new record.” Co-owner Greg Werckman added, “We are thrilled to add Spotlights to the Ipecac family and are sure that a lot of people will share our enthusiasm for their music.”

For their new album, the duo has brought on prolific drummer Aaron Harris as a producer. Harris is best known for his work with metal bands Isis and Palms. “Seismic came out of a reaction to the current state of humanity and the inevitable consequences we will have on this earth and ourselves,” explains Mario. “There’s an odd sense of beauty that comes with destruction, and we tried to capture that musically on this album.” SEISMIC is set to release on October 5th, and the band will be embarking on a North American tour with The Melvins until then. The tour will be making an insane 60 stops, so there is no excuse to miss it.
