Pygmalion Festival: Pygmalion Festival Announces 2017 Lineup Featuring Animal Collective, Thundercat and Julien Baker

Music festivals is at the heart of every music fan. People from all over, of all ages come together to share in a common interest of the arts. Every year, there are multiple festivals that occur across the world. One of the music festivals that is breaking out it’s yearly lineup this week is the annual indie-music festival Pygmalion in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois.

The festival has been around for 13 years and it appears to still be going strong. Recently, the organizers of Pygmalion Festival revealed its 2017 lineup and the killer list of performers and authors prove that it isn’t your typical music festival. The Pygmalion Festival is split into different departments to ensure that everyone who attends have something to call their own. These departments that make up the festival combines music, creation, food, technology and literature in one jam packed weekend.

Some noteworthy acts that will grace the stages at the festival include Animal Collective, SuperDuperKyle, George Saunders, Thundercat, BadBadNotGood, Javaka Steptoe, Julien Baker, Noname, Shlohmo, Corbin, Alissa Nutting, Big Thief, PygHack, Oddisee, Smino, Wild Belle, Demo, and The World Is a Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid to Die.

Thundercat has had an exciting year, with the release of his third album Drunk as well as multiple performances including thrilling one on the Tonight Show as he performed with Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald. Experimental pop band, Animal Collective will also be on the stage at Pygmalion. The band recently released an Ep titled The Painters and will no doubt be performing songs from it at the festival.

The literary segment of the festival will showcase accomplished authors and will offer up readings and a book fair. The food component will have Champaign restaurants setting up and selling on the festival site. They are Big Grove Tavern, Black Dog Smoke & Ale House, Columbia Street Roastery, Farren’s Pub, Maize Mexican Grill, Papa Dels Pizza Factory, Pekara Bakery & Bistro, The Popstop, and Watson’s Shack & Rail.

This year’s festival has found support in a wide range of organizations, businesses, and municipalities that include Krannert Center for the Performing Arts, City of Champaign, Goose Island Brewing Co., City of Urbana, Smile Politely Magazine, Research Park at UIUC, Mailchimp, and Ninth Letter, and a literary journal published by University of Illinois Department of English.
