Finnish gothic band, HIM is coming to the Philadelphia area as part of their farewell tour. Known for their use of heavy metal sounds, the band is one of the most successful Finnish bands of all time. In their career, HIM has sold over ten million units worldwide. HIM has released eight studio albums, two box sets, and 5 collection albums. Their music has been featured in various films and shows like Viva La Bam, Transformers, and LA Ink.
HIM was formed in 1991 by founding members Ville Valo and Mige. The duo recorded a few demos before breaking up due to other duties. The band was reformed a few years later by Ville Valo and Linde. After signing with BMG, HIM released their debut EP, 666 Ways to Love: Prologue in 1996. The EP debuted at number 16 on Finnish Albums Chart and peaked a few weeks later at number 9. HIM release their debut album Greatest Lovesongs Vol. 666 on November 20, 1997. The album was a huge success, peaking at number 4 on Finland Albums Chart. HIM won “Debut Album of the Year” at the 1997 Finnish Emma Awards. The band would continue to find success with the release of each new album. Him’s fourth album, Love Metal, debuted at number one in Finland and Germany. After the release of the album, HIM went on their first US tour which sold out every venue. The band has been associated with acts like The Rasmus, The 69 Eyes, and Negative, sometimes even sharing the stage with them.
HIM have already established themselves as one of the greatest bands in gothic rock. In 2005, HIM won “Rock Album of the Year” for Dark Light and “Song of the Year” for “Wings of a Butterfly” at the 2005 Emma Awards. HIM is the only Finnish band to receive international success, showcasing why they are the greatest. They are also the first Finnish band to have a gold record in the US. Founder Ville Valo has been a huge part of the band’s success during the years with his vocals. Him has cemented their legacy among the greats of gothic rock as their career comes to a close.
