Broken Social Scene @ The Foundry 10/03

With a new album on the way, Canadian band Broken Social Scene show no sign of stopping. The band is set to release their new album titled, Hug of Thunder in July 2017. Broken Social Scene is known for being a musical collective group rather than a band. The group has had as many as 19 members at a time while performing. Broken Social Scene has performed with various acts including Amy Milan, Stars, Feist and Metric. In 2010, Broken Social Scene’s Forgiveness Rock Record album peaked at number one in Canada. Broken Social Scene’s music has appeared in various films and soundtracks.

After forming in 1999, the band released their debut album, Feel Good Lost, on Noise Factory Records on March 6, 2001. The album was re-released a few years later. The band released their second album, You Forgot It In People, was released in 2002. The band went on a limited city tour in support of the album. Their hit single off the album, “Lover’s Spit” was featured in various films including Wicker Park and Lie With Me. The band released their third self-titled album in October 2005. The following year, Broken Social Scene performed at the North America Virgin Music Festival. The band was joined by Stars and Feist on stage.

The band released Forgiveness Rock Record in 2010, their first album since 2005. The album peaked at number 5 on Billboard Independent album chart. The album only reached number 80 on UK Albums Chart, while reaching lower on various charts around the world. The band performed a free concert at Harbourfront Centre on July 11, 2009. The band went on hiatus until 2013 when Broken Social Scene released a collection of their greatest hits. The band headlined their label’s Arts & Crafts Festival the same year.

Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
