Nine Inch Nails Perform “She’s Gone Away” on Twin Peaks

During the latest episode of Twin Peaks, Nine Inch Nails performed in fictional Roadhouse, the Bang Bar. They played the song, She’s Gone, off of 2016’s, “Not the Actual Events EP,” which according to mastermind Trent Reznor, is the first of trilogy of Nine Inch Nails EP’s. Within the context of the show, the Roadhouse is a tavern in which many locals attend to see musical acts. Several other known real-life musicians have came to the fictional venue, such as Chromatics, Trouble, and The Cactus Blossoms. More acts are planned for the rest of the season, like Michael Cera and Amanda Seyfried.
 

Having not performed live since 2014, Nine Inch Nails has broken their hiatus within a fiction venue. Though, that doesn’t make the performance any less real or worthwhile. The recording aired on Twin Peaks feels distinctly darker and bassier than the studio version of the song. This, coupled with the dimly lit performance space creates a very unique energy to the set. This is not the first time that Reznor and director David Lynch have collaborated. In fact, Reznor scored Lynch’s 1997 film, Lost Highway. More recently, David Lynch directed Nine Inch Nails’ 2013 Came Back Haunted music video (major seizure warning).
While Nine Inch Nails likely won’t release new LP in 2017, or embark on a full tour, they have a couple major festival gigs coming up this summer. As always, Reznor has a couple interesting projects coming down the pipeline as well.
