Indie rockers Grizzly Bear have released a new music video for “Four Cypresses” as reported by Consequence of Sound. The song is off their upcoming album Painted Ruins, their first new recording since 2012, which is set to be released on August 18th.
The song is the third single off the album, which also includes the spacey and psychedelic “Three Rings.” Musically speaking, “Four Cypresses” merges shimmering guitar chords to a loping jazz-influenced beat along with a set of strong vocals from Daniel Rossen.
The music video is a collection of old home movie style clips from Rossen’s childhood set to the song’s snappy and jazzy beat while the lyrics are presented as old vhs-styled text on the bottom of the screen. Themes of nostalgia are present throughout the video’s run-time and in the lyrics, which deal with themes of impermanence and the temporary nature of life.
In addition, Grizzly Bear have released details on an extensive set of tour dates this fall in support of Painted Ruins. The shows will mark the band’s first live dates since 2013.
