American artist and multi-instrumentalist St. Vincent (real name Annie Clark) announced a new tour this morning via a press-conference styled video. Starting on August 19th in Tokyo, the ‘Fear the Future Tour’ will make stops in 22 more cities (7 European, 15 American.) In the video, St. Vincent is shown walking up to a hot pink stage adorned by many microphones, and getting ready to speak. Instead, a coughing fit overtakes her, and eventually the important information is quickly shown in a screen overlay.
This announcement has fanned the flames of anticipation for St. Vincent’s previously announced 5th studio album. According to an interview earlier this year, the not-yet-named album was due to drop sometime in the spring. It’s late arrival should be no surprise to anyone who has taken notice of what busy year it has been for St. Vincent. In addition to working on her own music and collaborations, she scored Kristen Stewart’s new film, contributed to Planned Parenthood benefit project, appeared on a Bob’s Burgers album, released line of signature guitars, and even directed her own short horror film. Clearly, ‘multi-talented’ would be an understatement here.
She also went on to say that the work would be a, “real sea change in her sound,” and that it’ll be the “deepest, boldest” work she’s ever done. That is saying a lot for an artist as prolific as St. Vincent, who has been releasing acclaimed music for over a decade. Her last album, self-titled, received critical acclaim and a myriad of accolades (including a Grammy) upon it’s 2014 release. It will be a big album to follow up, but Clark sounds confident she can do it. “Based on the amount of material I have, I could have put out three records by now,” she said. “But I needed this one, especially with where we are in the world, to be the best thing that I’ve ever done by leaps and bounds. And that takes time.”
Tickets for the “Fear the Future” tour go on sale to the public June 30th, but fans can register for presale by June 25th for an opportunity to buy tickets three days early. See below for full list of dates.
