Mother Mother @ The Foundry 7/09

Canadian rock band Mother Mother, one of the best rock bands out of Canada, is performing at famous The Foundry next month. After the release of their highly successful new album, No Culture earlier this year, Mother Mother is looking to continue their fantastic year. Since their beginning in 2005, Mother Mother has released 6 studio albums and a handful of hit singles like, “Get Out The Way”, “Monkey Tree”, and “The Drugs”. “The Drugs” hit number one on the Canadain Rock/Alternative chart in 2016, making it Mother Mother’s only single to hit number one in their country. Mother Mother’s music has been featured in various films and commercials.   While Mother Mother’s music has been described as purely rock, Mother Mother has broken the barriers set upon them countless times.

Formed in 2005, founder, guitarist, and vocalist Ryan Guldemond recruited his sister, Molly Guldemond, to his band. In the fall of 2005, Mother Mother released their self-titled album independently. After the release of their album, Mother Mother booked gigs to open for international artists including K’naan and the Wailin’ Jennys in 2006. The same year, Mother Mother opened for Cat Empire at the Vancouver International Jazz Festival. After playing the Pop Montreal festival, the band met Last Gang Records and signed a contract which included four albums. Mother Mother re-released their debut album, changing the name to Touch Up, which included two new original songs. Mother Mother didn’t release their second album, O My Heart, until 2008. Mother Mother’s third album, Eureka, peaked at number 8 on Canadian Albums Chart. Their next album, The Sticks, only peaked at number 11 on the charts.

Over time, Mother Mother gained more attention in their career. In 2012, Kraft Foods used their single, “Bright Ideas” as their theme song for a series of commercials. The same year, Mother Mother went on their Canadian tour in support of their album. After signing with Universal Music Canada in 2014 to release their fifth album, Very Good Bad Thing, Mother Mother went on to perform at Ontario’s New Year festival at the end of 2016. Mother Mother went on their ‘No Culture’ tour earlier this year until March 2017.
