Hailing from Austin, TX, A. Sinclair is an energetic guitar rock band that is premiering their latest song “Just Remind Me” today. Led by frontman Aaron Sinclair, the band injects a sense of nervous urgency into every composition, and this non-album single is no exception. The track is chock-full of the guitar-driven “everyman” style that has made Sinclair a fixture as a teenager in the Boston music scene and now guides his Austin-based band.
“This song is about social anxiety, being in groups of people that I don’t know well or in situations that involve interacting with things outside of my comfort zone,” said Sinclair. “Things like these make me shake and tense up at the same time. It’s like I’m 12 again on the playground and having hot flashes.”
The latest song opens with staccato, reverb-drenched guitar chords that punch out a surf-influenced guitar riff. The bouncing, mid-tempo verses of “Just Remind Me” offer perfectly-paired lead-in to the driving, anthemic chorus with Sinclair’s slightly affected vocal delivery. The song’s no-nonsense style is a great antidote to the increasingly electronic-driven and superfluously experimental indie scene. Sometimes the best music is the most simple – shedding the trappings of excess and getting down to raw essence of rock and roll. In two and a half minutes and just a handful of chords, A. Sinclair achieves just that on “Just Remind Me.”
Just last week A. Sinclair released another non-album single titled “Cars.” The song was part of Dangerbird Records monthly music series titled Microdose. In fact, “Just Remind Me” is the B-side to the single. Both songs follow up Sinclair’s well-received 2016 Dangerbird Records LP Get Out Of The City.
A. Sinclair may sound like a fresh face in the indie world, but their namesake has been playing in bands for years. He drummed in the garage punk act The Lot Six for years, then formed a band called Frank Smith, a group which collaborated with Boston-area music legend Juliana Hatfield for an EP in 2007 titled Sittin’ In A Tree.
