Collab efforts are always a tricky thing, a song can be tough enough but a whole project? They can be nearly impossible sometimes. So when a group such as Jamtown-consisting of Cisco Adler, Donavon Frankenreiter and G.Love get together, it can be a special thing. With a group as talented and as storied as these three, you know the effort will good.
The group brings together a plethora of styles and genres into some easygoing hits, with roots in surf rock, pop/reggae, hip hop, and some folksy harmonica playing all entering the fray. All these ingredients come together to give you one of the most laid-back summer songs you’ll hear maybe ever, “Pick It Up.” Some soft guitar and smooth vocals provide a laid back vibe, as some simplistic drums and twangy guitars add some texture to the song, and a laid back guitar solo lets the song ride out. It’s the only song you’ll need when you’re riding around, windows down on a summer night just as the sun has set.
The summer jam is part of the Jamtown EP which will be out June 23. The EP was recorded on the spot at Adler’s Bananabeat studio located in Malibu. The studio is set up as “a musician’s playground,” as Adler describes it, with various stations in different rooms. On a whim, the musicians could plop down wherever they felt like and record, giving it that easy going feel that will surely permeate the entire project.
Crack open something cold, sit outside on a nice summer evening, and hit play on the track below.
