Reel Big Fish @ The Fillmore 6/20

American ska punk band Reel Big Fish has been releasing great music for over a decade. Best known for their hit single “Sell Out”, Reel Big Fish smashed their way into the hearts of punk fans all over during the 90s. The band gained a massive following after falling out of the mainstream scene. Reel Big Fish dropped their major record label and went the independent route in 2006. While the lineup has changed over time, founding frontman Aaron Barrett has been the consist in the group.

The band got its start as a cover band, doing shows around California. Reel Big Fish’s debut album, Everything Sucks, was released self-produced by the band. The album was a huge success which in turn lead to a major record deal with Mojo Records in 1995. Everything Sucks peaked at number 108 on Billboard 200 chart. For the next few years, Reel Big Fish dominated the charts with hit singles. In 2002, Reel Big Fish released their fourth album, Cheer Up!, which did tremendous in the rock charts. Reel Big Fish has opened for various acts as well as headlining their own tours. After their tour in 2006, Reel Big Fish decided to release their music independently. The band released a 3 disc collection of their live performances in July 2006.

Over time members left in order to care for family members or take time off from music. The years following were filled with various tours and festivals. Some of Reel Big Fish’s latest album include Candy Coated Fury and an EP titled Happy Skalidays in 2014. The band’s style has been described as alternative rock and third wave ska. Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
