Wavves Explore The Dangers of Catfishing in New Video for “Stupid In Love”

Wavves are back with another new video from their solid new LP You’re Welcome, this time for the song “Stupid in Love.” The video features a gamer who gets duped into pursuing an online relationship with a techie-looking avatar with brilliant-colored pink hair. As he plays an old-school video game on his computer, he receives a message from the “girl” and strikes up a conversation. In between talking to friends about his lack of luck in love, he checks his computer for messages from the pink-haired girl. Turns out the humans behind the avatar are in fact a couple who steal his credit card info when he tries to buy a train ticket for his online lover. The video ends with the catfishers partying and boozing it up, proclaiming “God Bless American Teenagers!” while our protagonist is left alone, holding a bouquet of flowers at a train station.

The video is directed by Rocco Rivetti.

The Southern California noise rockers have already released a few songs and videos from their sixth full-length record, including a retro-themed clip for “Million Enemies.” In other news, the band will take part in the Adult Swim singles club alongside other underground stars like Washed Out, Run the Jewels and Flying Lotus. The also just concluded their Spring 2017 tour in support of the new record, so be on the lookout for a fresh run of dates from the band.
