In The Valley Below @ Boots and Saddle 8/16

In The Valley Below is bringing their use of dream pop to the Philadelphia area. ITVB is known for their popular hit single, “Peaches” back in 2013. The single was re-released a year later in 2014. Formed in 2011, the band led by Jeffrey Jacob Mendel (vocals, guitar) and Angela Gail Mattson (vocals, keyboard). Joshua Clair (drummer) joined the band later down the road for live shows. Their only studio album The Belt was released in 2013.

Even though both Mendel and Mattson are from Michigan and Tennesse, the two met while in the Los Angeles-based band Sabrosa Purr. Mendel and Mattson played a few shows with Sabrosa Purr before forming In The Valley Below. After attending SXSW, the newly formed band started work on their debut EP. By the end of 2011, In The Valley Below has released a self-titled five-song EP. It would be 2 years until In The Valley Below released new music. In 2013 the band surprised their fans by releasing a new single, “Peaches”. In The Valley Below also announced they would be releasing their debut studio album titled The Belt. The album was released on August 25, 2013. A few days later In The Valley Below made their US national tv debut on The Late Show With David Letterman, performing their hit single “Peaches”.

Following their national tv debut, In The Valley Below went on tour supporting acts like White Lies and Cold War Kids on their North American tours. Being on tour helped increase In The Valley Below’s popularity while making a name for themselves. In The Valley Below has also made appearances at The Great Escape, SXSW, Austin City Limits music festivals. Their debut album was released over a span of two years worldwide. The album was greatly received earning them high honors. L.A. Weekly named their album as one of their Top 10 Albums of 2014 while Noisey named their hit single, “Peaches” as their number 17th track of 2013 list.

Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
