Yasiin Bey (Mos Def) to Give Final Performance at ONE Musicfest 2017

Music festivals come and go with every passing year and every year people of all ages come together for that shared experience. They come together for a moment to build memories and connections, for joy that money can buy. Music festivals are a celebration and a party and as you mark your calendar, make sure one weekend is dedicated to ONE Musicfest. A festival full of music, food and art. 2017 marks its eighth year and is set to kick off in Atlanta.

But a sad cloud will appear over the music and arts festival which marks the ending of Yasiin Bey, also known as Mos Def who will give a farewell performance during the celebration.

ONE Musicfest 2017 will include a rare show from Bey, who is retiring from the music and film industry. This rare gig comes after the rapper was charged last year for using false passport. Due to this incident, he was not permitted to leave South Africa until last November. According to Billboard, Bey has revealed in a message shared by the rapper’s close friend and collaborator, Kanye West, that he would be “retiring from the music recording industry.” ONE Musicfest will give Bey one last chance to showcase what a truly talented musical artist he is.

The festival will no doubt be a showcase of amazing talents, performances that will include Jill Scott and Damian “Jr. Gong” Marley. Scott recently released her fifth studio album Woman which included the Grammy nominated song “Can’t Wait.” Marley’s upcoming album Stony Hill will be hitting the world on his 39th birthday which is July 21st.

Jason “J” Carter, president and founder of Sol Fusion Media Group, the company that produces the music festival made a statement to Billboard which said; “Every year, ONE Musicfest grows and expands. We’ve built something that fans can really look forward to and we aim to create moments that inspire and invigorate attendees. Expect this year to be historic. We can’t wait to see you there.”

ONE Musicfest will kick off on Friday of September 8th with sets from Thundercat, J.I.D., Ari Lennox and Noname at the Tabernacle Atlanta. The following day at the Lakewood Amphitheatre will host performances from Sean Paul, Jidenna, Kaytranada, Too $hort, Tank and the Bangas.

For more on the lineup and where you can purchase tickets, check out ONE Musicfest website here. Though one should buy their tickets fast because Lakewood Amphitheatre has limited seating and the festival will surely sell out quick.

Those who have been following Bey’s career will surely want to buy tickets as soon as possible for the chance to pay their respects and say goodbye.
