Mew @ The Foundry 8/7

Danish rock band Mew is riding high of the success of their latest album, Visuals. The band released their seventh album on April 28th, 2017. Since their beginning in 1995, Mew has continued to release outstanding music year after year. While their music is usually classified as indie rock, Mew has clearly broken through the normal standard of music. Mew is currently touring the US on a limited city tour in support of their new album which peaked at number one in Denmark. In total Mew has released seven studio albums, 3 EPs, and one compilation album.

Mew was formed in 1995 by Jonas Bjerre, Johan Wohlert, Silas Utke Graae Jorgensen and Bo Madsen. Two years later, Mew released their debut album A Triumph for Man in 1997. It would be three years until Mew released a follow-up album titled Half The World Is Watching Me. Mew won “Best Album of the Year” and “Band of the Year” at the 2003 Danish Music Critics Award. Success started to follow the band after the release of their chart-topping third album, Frengers, in 2003. The album peaked at number 2 in Denmark and number 6 in Norway, making it one of their best albums to date. The album was certified platinum in Denmark a few years later. It wasn’t until their fifth album, No More Stories, that the band reached mainstream success. The album peaked at number one on Billboard Heatseekers chart in the US while only reaching number 130 on Billboard 200 chart. In 2009, Mew spent the year touring with rock band Nine Inch Nails in support of their highly successful album.

After 2012, Mew toured vigorously over the next few years. Mew announced a Nordic tour in 2014 while appearing at various festivals around the world. While on tour, Mew continued to release new singles from their upcoming album, +. Mew appeared at SXSW in Austin, Texas on March 18, 2015. The album dropped April 27, 2015. Earlier this year, Mew released a new song on the Danish radio station P6 Beat while announcing their new album, Visuals, would be released later this Spring. Mew’s seventh studio album, Visuals was released on April 28, 2017.
