Homeshake @ Barracuda 8/13

Homeshake is an independent artist also known by the name of Peter Sager. Sager is based in Montreal, Canada. He was Mac Demarco’s former guitarist a couple of years ago. Though Sager started his own solo project in 2012 while still playing with Demarco, he finally left the band in 2014 to work on Homeshake full-time.

In 2013, he had released his first two demo cassette tapes. Since then, Sager has released three full-length albums: In the Shower, Midnight Snack and Fresh Air. Fresh Air is his latest released that was out in February of this year. Sager definitely switched it up with this album, making it sound different from his first two. If you’re a Demarco fan, I recommend giving Homeshake a listen. Like Demarco, I consider Sager a musical genius as well.

With Sager being Demarco’s former guitarist, there is an obvious similarity in his sound. Demarco’s slacker-rock style has rubbed off on Sager. Though Homeshake is very much slacker-rock, he twists it up another notch with his own unique style. Along with the usual jangle pop, Sager adds in smooth 90’s R&B tunes and the use of his synth. It all has that organic feel that it was recorded in his home, which is so easy to love.
