Last weekend saw the debut of yet another Southern California music festival, though this one a bit different than the others: headlined by punk and metal icon Glenn Danzig and filled out with heavy music luminaries like Ministry, Suicidal Tendencies and Corrosion of Conformity, Blackest of the Black Festival lived up to its billing. Always an entertaining interviewee, Danzig sat down with Los Angeles Times reporter for an interview to accompany the new festival – and in it, he revealed some interesting views on current events.
In the interview, Danzig waxed pundit on issues affecting modern America, such as Trump’s controversial and constantly court-halted “travel ban.” “It’s really not a travel ban. When you walk into the country, we want to see who you are and what you’re doing. Well, when I go to every country right now, they look at me and they see whether I can come in or not. And I’ve been turned away from Canada and other places before. Where’s my protest? Where’s my parade?” It seems that Danzig might need to do a little reading up on what exactly Executive Order 13769, also known as Protecting the Nation from Foreign Terrorist Entry into the United States, but best known as the “travel ban” in popular culture (much to the ire of conservatives).
Those liberals ready to start burning their copies of Earth A.D./Wolf’s Blood or Danzig’s surprisingly solid new record Black Laden Crown, the man defends himself as not being fully conservative. “I might be conservative on some issues, and some issues I’m really liberal,” he explained before giving his thoughts on the pro-life/pro-choice quandary and the role of Planned Parenthood: “I’m pro-abortion and I’m pro- Planned Parenthood. But I don’t think Planned Parenthood should be selling baby parts like a chop shop in Brooklyn, OK?” Someone might want to tell him that “pro-abortion” isn’t exactly the preferred nomenclature among those who support a woman’s right to choose.
No matter what, the interview was pure Danzig – it’s unlikely that the interview will lose the enigmatic singer any fans, and might just earn him a few right-leaning listeners with his hot takes. By the way, his take on the current state of the world? It’s always been full of shit – but “now it’s even more full of shit.”
