Gorillaz @ Festival Pier 7/13

One of the most famous virtual bands is coming to the Philadelphia area for the summer! Gorillaz is high off their highly successful album, Humanz while they make their way to the Festival Pier at Penn’s Landing. Gorillaz is known to have work with various musicians from different genres. After getting their start in 1998, Gorillaz has released 5 studio albums and headlined a few tours. The Grammy-winning band is currently touring the US with special guests on their Humanz Tour.

The band was formed in 1998 by founder Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett. After a chance meeting, Gorillaz released their debut self-titled album, Blur in 1997. The band released their first EP Tomorrow Comes Today in 2000. The following year, Gorillaz released their single, “Clint Eastwood”. The single reached the 4 spot on UK’s music chart, staying there for a few weeks. A few days later, Gorillaz dropped their official full-length self-titled album Gorillaz including the single, “Clint Eastwood”. The band was nominated for more than 3 BRIT Awards and also performed using 3D animation on stage. Gorillaz didn’t release their second album, Demon Days until 2005. The album debuted at number 1 on the UK Albums chart which was then nominated for a Grammy in 2006. Since Demon Days debuted the album has gone platinum many times in the UK, US, and Australia, making Gorillaz the most successful virtual band of all time.

Over the years, Gorillaz has headlined tours all over the world. In 2010, Gorillaz headlined the final night of Coachella Music Festival on April 18, 2010. Gorillaz has been known to perform as 3D animations with a human special guest at their shows. After the release of their latest album, Humanz, Gorillaz announced the tour dates for their new Humanz Tour with a great lineup of special guests. Don’t miss your chance to catch Gorillaz.

Donovan Wilkins: Donovan Wilkins is a self-taught photographer and published writer. He lives in Glenside after moving from his hometown of Philadelphia. After studying Liberal Arts at CCP, he decided to focus his time on his writing and photography. In 2016, Donovan completed his first feature-length screenplay, The Coast is Clear. During his career, Donovan worked on a small budget film in Philadelphia as part of a writing team. Since then, he has written various short screenplays.
